Oh yeah, I definitely prefer sports to just plain working out. But I have joined gyms many times and ended up being very dedicated (obsessed even?) to working out vigorously every day. But that was always when I had a LOT of time - no job or anything. I do find it to be boring, but if I get determined enough then it doesn't stop me.
I do really enjoy the social interaction of teams. I've always had a great time with teammates and it's been a lot of fun. I would like to find some kind of recreational adult league around here to participate in, but I haven't had much success with that. I think there was softball through parks and rec, but there are some sports that I pretty much hate, and softball is one of them! Also, it seems like there are some things, but you have to enter as a team, not an individual, which is a problem for me.
I actually do have access to the gym here and some of the sports teams for faculty/staff, but I think you have to pay some, plus the ones I've heard of are like golf, which is just not for me. The squash team is through the university, which will be starting up in August. I think it will be better as a grad student because I think they have specific rec teams just for grad students, and I'll hopefully know more people and have some friends!
