Jimmy,
Have you checked this site on gabapentin (Neurontin)?
http://www.psycom.net/depression.central.gabapentin.html
In addition to the FAQ, you can follow some of the references at the end to Medline abstracts.
My personal experience is that Neurontin:
1. is initially sedating;
2. is quick-acting (like a benzo);
3. does have pretty-good anti-anxiety properties, and can help with depressive thinking, hypersensitivity, and irritability;
4. was not a very strong long-term mood-stabilizer for me.
If I ramped up the dose too quickly, it made me feel "out of it" for a few hours, but it does not seem to have any other side effects for me. I would suspect it might help a lot with social phobia.
I wish you luck.> I am suffering from Social phobia and borderline personality disorder. I know drugs that work for rapid cycling bipolar are brescribed to borderlines and vice versa.
