Hi!
This site is so great! All of you are posting invaluable info and it has helped me to help myself with BP depression... Thanks!
Now, my question is if it is too much to take 5HTP and Rhodiola Rosea and Gingko... and Fish Oil and Magnesium.... or well, which of these could be causing my insomnia??
I thought it could be the fish oil so I cut down to every other day, in the morning, and it helped a bit, but I am still spending several nights up all night, super awake.I take the minimum dosages of each of the above mentioned since I am small in terms of body mass and very sensitive. (magnesium 400 mg, rhodiola 400 mg, 5htp 200 mg, fish oil 640, gingko 100mg).... also vit e, c, zinc, b-12..... that's it!
Feel much better since starting this combo and am so GLAD that I was able to skip prescriptions.
Thanks to all, wishing you all good health!

Of the things you are taking rhodiola is the most likely one causing insomnia. It has pro-dopamine effects that will tend to keep you alert and awake. 5htp is usually known to be sedating, but it can also cause insomnia for some people.
I did not sleep well on 5htp. I fell asleep ok, but had frequent wakings and early waking.
I only tried rhodiola for a few days, but slept absolutely lousy. It felt like an amphetamine kind of sleep. I must admit though, it did have a powerful fast good effect on my mood the first day. It didn't seem as good in followup days, but the poor sleep was still pretty bad.
Fish oil can sometimes cause insomnia. But if you take your last dose at lunch it shouldn't do that. I really think it is the rhodiola. You might want to see if you can reduce the dose for a while and maybe raise it back up later down the road after your body has adjusted to it.

Thank you for your quick response!
You sound really knowledgeable, so at the expense of pestering you, I was wondering if you could recommend flax (or other oil) as an alternative to Fish Oil as it is causing me some major skin problems. Actually, I believe the primary cause is stress, but I certainly donät think the fish oil is helping matters!
It seems like the properties of these type of oils are quite essential so I would hate to just cut it out...Thanks for any suggestions, or to anyone else who has any thoughts!

My doctor recommends flax oil to those who do not want to take fish oil. I don't think it has as much therapeutic power, but it is better than no omega3s at all. Try to get a flax that is very high in omega3 compared to omega6.
Might be worth a shot to try a different fish oil, like maybe one that is mostly just EPA with very little or no DHA.
This is the end of the thread.
