so...
people got a little sick and tired of ashley bloomfield being the only person with speaking rights...
people also got a little sick and tired of one of the female micro-biologists.
there's this thing they do...
the first one was this lady... she was the daughter of someone important. clearly. she gives ted talks about engineering. never about building. always about smashing. nano-girl. she's supposed to be cool and pretty so that a bunch of girls will be motivated and inspired to pay the university to pay the university to pay the university to pay the university to do a 'cool' degree of engineering... because the university is equal opportunists when it comes to taking people's money, clearly. it doesn't give a sh*t whether the kid is male or female the parents money is all the same...
so then there's bio lady... and her work was highly collaborative during the covid effort. she was a convenient mouth-piece. there was a high medical / science illustrator contributing, at one point, where a picture really was worth more than thousands of words with respect to how face masks and handwashing etc were keeping the numbers of virus particles down...
and she's fat. yeah. and not very attractive. but she's got cool dyed hair which is salient. so she's supposed to be motivating and inspiring for all the kids out there who are fat and not very attractive. she's got them all motivated and inspired to pay or have their parents pay the university pay the university pay the university pay the university so that they can grow up to be.... new zealander of the year. apparently.
and it's convenient... for her... at some point... to have a cry about how people are mean to her and they call her fat. and they call her names because she's a woman...
and her publically crying about this...
makes large segments of nz go 'awwwwwwwww poooooor you' and like her more for it.
disarming.
i mean... she's fairliy much the only person with speaking rights... she gets all the content from the university and government con-munications... she's in the media all the time for the 'party line' message...
pooooor her.

just like the common-man.
it's soooo hard being an academic...
i wrote to her relatively early... about using face masks. at the time when her message was 'they aren't 100 per cent effective therefore no point'. i wrote to her after her message changed to 'underwear or surgical material' to ask her about fit testing in her bio labs. for her students. when they were dealing with infectious matieral... sigh...
she's a mouth-piece.
the biggest threat to academic freedom isn't that people question her because she's female.
the biggest threat to academic freedom is that people say that any critique of her academic freedom (and others academic freedom when they will only pay and give air time to her) is discrination on the basis of her being female.
forcing the issue to be about that.
i love it how the men all write to say teh issue is about her being female.
not about how the men who decide teh issue are all white elite males...
of course.
don't get me wrong i don't suppose they have academic freedom either. i guess they did whatever mummy and daddy paid the university for them to do. and that was an end to it.
