Wow Manic - it all sounds wonderful & brings back memories of when I went with my Mom on bus tours of England, Scotland, Wales, & Ireland. We were staying with a relative's sister in London. I loved seeing all the stuff we saw.
We also drove with friends to Cornwall & Devon. Still remember an amazing little seaside town where you parked at the top & the cobblestone street was so narrow that people from the upstairs windows of houses across the street could pretty-well shake hands!! lol And I remember a delicious Devonshire tea with tea & scones & jam & clotted cream. YuMMMMMMM.
After Mom came back to Canada, I stayed living there for a while outside London. Got a job in London & took the train in each day. I loved it ALL......even didn't mind that the air in London at that time was so dirty that if I blew my nose the kleenex was grey from dirt in my nose!!! lol
England has so much history...so much has gone on there, many of the towns still have their old charm; history is rich in the very air!
When I got back I missed it so much. Most places here have a 'hollow' feeling in comparison.
I am not saying there's no beauty here. There's breathtaking beauty galore. But very little of the old-world historic mellowness. Quebec City has some. Some buildings in Toronto have some. I'm sure there are other places that I haven't been that have it also, but Canada is such a big country. As you say, for you, you're pretty close to LOTS of things.
love, Kath
