Aww thanks Lynn!
I actually left that job after 10 years, it was really hard, but I had to move.
These are in the "This world is freaking crazy"
The only two I'll talk about, or I'd go on forever.
We as workers would get a warning if we allowed any of the clients to play on the swings at the park. Because they were *adults* and it's not *appropriate* It would perpetuate a stereotype about them to the rest of the community.
Ya.. and.. not allowing them to make their own decisions is NOT a stereotype? okay...
You'll choke on this one.
I'm NOT MAKING THIS UP
One of the young men was in a wheelchair, and he had extremely poor motor control. Whenever he ate, most of the food would fall of his fork before he got it to his mouth. He liked his food, it was very frustrating.
One of my co-workers suggested a type of fork that is made just for that problem, it's curved and it makes things much easier.
The head office wouldn't allow it, as "That would only accentuate his handicap"Oh I see, and pretending he has no difficulties at all is so much more respecting of who he is as a person.
*sarcasm*After 7 years I still have to vent : )
