Thanks, you've given me a lot of useful information. We're thinking of going to a private shelter that also operates a veterinary hospital. We can't afford a necropsy, so we're going to assume it was sudden cardiac arrest. I talked to a vet who said the most common reason for sudden death of a healthy cat was cardiac arrest. Our other cat seems perfectly fine.
