John, sweetheart, it's the CAFFEINE content in that stuff that's making you feel like ca-ca when you stop drinking it. It's called "withdrawal."
The aspartame baloney is a rumor started by the sugar industry to get people to use more of their product instead of the fake stuff.
Besides, contrary to popular belief, a little sugar won't hurt anybody ... but a lot will, so moderation is the key.
Addiction to the cola soft drinks is, however, a very real problem because of the caffeine that's included. I strongly suggest you taper yourself off of it slowly or you'll end up like my first wife who was so strung out on Pepsi that she had to be committed for a week at Yale Psychiatric Institute. She was drinking gallons of the stuff daily and I really wasn't aware of what was going on until I went grocery shopping with her one time. We had two baskets: food was in mine, Pepsi was in hers. It was then that I realized that there might be something dreadfully wrong with my darling-dearest. Please understand that I was young and stupid back then ... now I'm old and stupid. Little has changed.
Attend to that cola problem immediately.
