There may be reasons for why you experience these things other than depression. Cortisol release follows this pattern. However, if your cycle is indeed due to depression, it follows a pattern that is observed in melancholic (endogenous) depression. Tricyclic antidepressants (TCA) tend to be more effective for melancholic depression than the SSRIs. The SNRIs are more comparable to TCA, and might be worth trying if you find TCAs to be intolerable.
