And from one of my favorite chapters, James. I could probably call the entire book of James my favorite verse.
Just so the tongue is an insignificant organ, but it boasts great things. Look how small a spark sets so mighty a forest ablaze! The very rule of misrule the tongue establishes among our organs: it is the soiler of the whole body and the inflamer of the process of generation, being inflamed itself by Gehenna. Every species of beast and bird, reptile and marine creature, has been tamed by the human species. But the tongue no one can tame: it is an ungovernable evil, saturated with deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord our Father, and equally with it we curse men made in the image of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. This should not be, my brothers. Does a fountain gush fresh and brackish water from the same vent? Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? No more can salt water yield fresh. Who among you claims wisdom and sagacity? Let him display his accomplishments by worthy conduct, with the moderation of wisdom.
