Well, yes, that's the idea. In many cases - vast majority I'd say. Thus no requirement in the FAQ to say who you used to be. Sort of a compromise - let the community know you're not a newbie, but to also allow for the anonymity of a new name if the posters wishes....

The challenge is to maintain that anonymity, though. I find peoples' 'voices' here are for the most part, quite unique and unfortunately, when they *want* to sort of - start over - identifiable. Not always, of course, but often it's a really, really hard thing to disguise "yourself" if you've been writing somewhere for a while.

It is disconcerting to me at times, too, to not be quite sure who you are talking to...but OTOH I'm glad it's available, especially to those whose posting names get "outed" by family, friends, etc. (in some cases people will say others then come to Babble and read everything they post once they find out the name....) and they feel the only other option is to completely leave. Or, there have been posters who are very anxious their therapists have discovered/know their posting names and might read, or.....any number of reasons I've heard over the years here.

No perfect solutions/rules...
