Here's a scenario for everyone based on llurpsie's #3. Say poster A posts something and poster B posts the single sentence: The administration has deemed this post to not be uncivil.
1. How would you react if you were poster A?
2. How would you react if you were a poster just reading the thread? Thanks,
Bob
1) I would be aware that something I said triggered someone's civility antennae. I might be satisfied, knowing that I passed the civility test. I might be proud that I toed the line and survived.
I might also be surprised that I triggered someone's civility antennae. I might wonder why I triggered their antennae. If I were feeling particularly ____ I might be very self-critical of my post and wonder what I did to merit this sort of (negative?) attention.
2) I would feel curiosity, and I would be more likely to respond to the thread's content. I would respond with more knowledge about where the boundaries between civility and incivility lay.
sorry to use the metaphorical antennae. I envision them as the elaborate antennae of the gypsy moth.
