Many patients pick up bad habits in hospital. I have seen MANY "borderliners" starting to cut themselves in hospital when they didn't before. Hanging around in bed in the middle of the day is what I picked up from there. It is not good.
It costs more money, but I'd say most would be better served to get visits in their home rather than going to hospital. In and out of hospital for decades is pretty pricey, too, but the hospital doesn't care $$$
