In reply to Nardil/Abilify- Trouble Losing Weight, posted by AZLIZZY on October 4, 2008, at 12:55:54
> I have been taking Nardil for (2) months and Abilify for the past (2) weeks. I have been on a weight loss program and have not been able to lose any weight in the past (2) weeks. I have cut my caloric intake in half and have been walking (2) miles per day. This may not seem like alot to some, but I weigh 310 and have not been active much in the past. I am so frustrated, because in the past I have been able to lose and average of (15) pounds in a month doing the same things I am currently attempting. Has anyone had trouble losing weight w/ Nardil or Abilify? I have heard that Nardil can cause weight gain, but did not expect this much resistance. Does it affect the thyroid or slow down the metabolism? I have only been having trouble since I reached the 75 mg dosage of Nardil, which seems therapeutic for me. Prior to reaching my current dosage, I was able to lose some weight. Any thoughts?
Just thought that it may be helpful to others to post an update. I ended up going off of Abilify due to side effects that started showing up after taking the drug a while. I ended up gaining about 6 pounds in 12 days on Abilify. After I stopped, I dropped the six pounds in the following 4 days. Abilify definitely causes weight gain for some people. I hope that this is not the case for everyone.
