I just thought I'd add in here that I am currently prescribed two different amphetamines -- Dexedrine 15mg Spansules x3 each A.M. and Desoxyn 5-10mg four times daily -- for the combined purposes of atypical depression/dysthymia, ADD, social anxiety, amotivational syndrome, and yes, my general practitioner and my psychiatrist both sanction its use for me for weight loss. I also take Xanax, Xyrem, multiple OTC supplements, and dextromethorphan 30mg twice daily, which I've found to be absolutely essential in succeeding at not developing tolerance any time I'm prescribed amphetamines. The dextromethorphan (as well as l-tyrosine powder, one of the supplements I take) is an enormous help, because I've been really working on losing the ninety pounds or so that psych drugs have put on me since about 2001. I'm using an Atkins-like approach, but with more emphasis on importance of choosing healthy fats and getting proper nutrition. Anyway, I'm at the phase of the diet now during which I've slowly reintroduced a small amount of carbohydrate into my diet (about 100mg daily, for fiber and nutrients). I've found the added carbs, while important to maintaining renal health and other things on this diet, make my appetite double what it normally is. My Dexedrine/Desoxyn combination addresses this wonderfully. It certainly isn't disappointing me regarding its other prescribed purposes either.

~Michael
