Hello,
>I've been in pain for 7 years, it has become neuropathic so percocets no longer help and the last 6-7 months the pain has been debilitating.
Oxycodone frequently does help neuropathic pain provided that the dose is adequate. The amount of oxycodone present in Percocet is rarely adequate to control neuropathic pain. OxyContin can be useful to treat neuropathic pain because it contains oxycodone only ie. no acetaminophen, as is present in Percocet. The absense of acetaminophen allows the dose of oxycodone to be effectively titrated against the pain. Some doctors will tell you that neuropathic pain never responds to opioids, this is a myth- there are studies which support the efficacy of oxycodone in neuropathic pain.
Good luck with the Marcaine,
Ed.
