In reply to CORRELATION BETWEEN IQ AND MENTAL ILLNESS?, posted by MichelleMyBelle on May 11, 2003, at 1:12:46
I have a higher than average IQ (125), and an unusually good long-term memory (it was tested last year.). I also think that I have a better understanding of complicated situations than others do. I enjoy debate and the play of ideas.
I'm not sure if this makes me more prone to mental illness. My (fraternal) twin has the same IQ as I do, and no mental illness. She also places an enormously high value on being conventional and 'normal,'; I don't.
Maybe my mental illness just comes from being aware of the negatives of our culture and how 'unhealthy' normal can be?
(In other words, I'm not "insane," I'm _sane_ surrounded by an _insane_ society!)
