Kramer - use of Seroquel

Posted by Emme on April 1, 2002, at 2:35:46

Hi Dr. Kramer,

I am taking Lamictal (easing up from 75 to probably 100 mg), klonopin (varying 0.25 - 1 mg), neurontin (900 mg), and atenolol (25 mg). I've also been using 12.5 mg Seroquel at night. My doctor added this to help me sleep, provide additional anxiety control and potentially boost my antidepressant response to the Lamictal. I find it really helpful and haven't noticed any side effects from it (a miracle for me).

I was wondering what your opinion is on the use of seroquel for help with sleep and anxiety. Many folks on this board express concern over the risks of movement disorders from atypical antipsychotics. At very low doses is this risk extremely low? Would uncontrolled movements of the tongue and mouth be the first sign of trouble? (No, I don't have such symptoms.)

Thanks,
Emme
