In reply to Has anyone tried modafinil (Provigil)?, posted by PhoenixGirl on January 22, 2001, at 10:54:39
> I am interested in trying this drug. I want it to replace my desipramine or allow me to reduce desipramine because of desipramine's sexual side effects. Please tell me about your experience with modafinil/Provigil, regarding effectiveness and side effects.
I began provigil augmentation of Effexor to treat depression about six weeks ago. The first two days - 200 mg. each morning - were remarkable. I felt a calm and contentment throughout the day.
Six weeks later and I am taking 400 mg. each morning (sometimes 500 mg.). The mood brightening effect fades around noon. The rest of the day I is odd: I experience depression but remain energized from the provigil. Mind you, I would rather be depressed and energized than depressed and fatigued (which is how I have felt these past two decades) but the combination can seem disconcerting. So far, I have experienced no side effects.
I suggest you trial provigil with an AD. (I don't know how it combines with the range of ADs however.) It can bring relief.
I hope this personal information is helpful.
