So...

I didn't know that Nintendo locked things so that people (kids) actually couldn't... Say... Program the device. They couldn't browse Youtube or whatever. That's what made it secure enough so that you could feel comfortable giving it to a kid (with parental settings)...

I didn't know that the whole 'programmable calculator' thing was hype that was instructions contained within the instructions for the calculator...

So...

Steamdeck is (effectively) porting all the games to Linux. After various people say and have said that it couldn't be done (for various reasons) it is in fact being done. Games are in fact being ported to Linux via proton. Thanks Steam Deck. Apparently. Which is getting this done.

Hmm.

valve, I guess.

I don't know.

User community.

People choosing to spend their time porting games... I don't know. I don't know what is involved in porting games to know where the credit lies for making it happen.

With the user community. Says Gabe. For porting the games so they are in fact playable on Linux.

I don't know...

So, apparently, bad people troll for information with the explict intention that any information that they have about you, will only be used against you. Who would have thought? That they would intentionally take things out of context so that people could be motivated and inspired not to relate to you as a person, but to see or view you as 'the other'. Hmm. I see...

Well then all of the money and titles and awards and esteems and everything everything everything everything for them. Clearly most certainly and absolutely!! ALL HEIL !!

controller vs mouse and keyboard

So...

I understand what they mean when they say that the GUI of controller games is such a significant overhaul of a game that it deserves or has earned new purchase price. Such that, if you purchased a mouse and keyboard version of the game and now you want to play a controller version of the game then you need to repurchase the game with the controller GUI.

However...

What if I have a console.. And I want to use mouse and keyboard? Why can't I choose to purchase the mouse and keyboard version of the game? Why choose to conflate 'console user' with 'controller' when most controllers allow you to plug in accessories including mouse and keyboard?

In fact... Many computers will now allow you to install or input controllers. Xbox. Or Playstation. Or Nintendo. Because, you know. what the world needs is more places to hide the x button... Lolz . No, but seriously...

I do understand the GUI re-development justifies a new purchase price.

But I do not understand forcing people to pay a new purchase price by refusing to honor the GUI they have already purchased.

I mean to say... I purchased some things (e.g., the Sims) on computer with mouse and keyboard funtionality. And then I also purchase same game on console and experience it with that functionlity. Why can't I then (at least) choose to play the game with keyboard and mouse from my console?

It's garbage when they try and drive up the prices of PC towers by halting or stalling or actively retarding functionality-- rather than selling them on their actual merits.

Just saying...

Garbage.

So I mis-spoke slightly, but I am sure that intelligent people get my meanings.

I do understand that it takes genuine and legitimate development time that should in fact be fairly compensated to port a game from mouse and keyboard to this or that controller.

Whereas.. Porting a game from this or that platform is a 'labor of love' from 'people with passion'.

?

And the upshot is that if I want to play a game (e.g., Fallout 4, The Sims, Whatever) that I purchased on PC (or Mac) with mouse and contoller.. Then I can't play the game on modern consoles unless I purchase the game for that specific controller and only use that specific controller.

So, for example, I can't play dual-release (next gen console also PC games) with mouse and keyboard on controller. I am not saying it is optimal for all games all the time.. I am saying to let the people make informed decison of whether they wish to purchase whatever controller system they prefer..

Let me buy the game that allows me to pay keyboard and mouse (on Playstation and X box) or let me buy the game that lets me play with the controler GUI on PC if that is something that I think is a better way to play that particular game...

Plse

So,

For example...

I have myself a Dell Business Model Monitor that will do 4K up to 60fps. With.. Uh.. I don't know what color range etc etc...

Anyhoo.. It is a fairly nice monitor. And if I use a controller then I see the cursor aim without appreciable tearing or whatever...

But if I look at my macbook built in display.. And use the trackpad to really move the cursor around. I mean seriously: Work that cursor around...

Now you notice stuttering. Right? Now imagine 1cm stutturing on first person shooters. Or in fact on any game at all.

Right.

Yeah.

Aiming with a controller is like trying to get a sluggish horse to move. Kick kick kick kick kick f*ck*ng kick nobody is f*ck*ng going any f*ck*ng where in real time.

What a drag. Yes. It's f*ck*ng painful trying to drag teh f*ck*ng cursor over the screen with a controller rather than simply aiming it where you want it to be with a mouse.

Maybe if yuo withhold mice from the community... And also remove any information they have about people out of the ghetto then they will never know the difference therefore you remove their capaity to complain.

Right ashley?

No, but really.

I am not sure where the real work lies in porting games or porting controller versions of the games. It does make sense for people to pay more for more functionality. But I don't think that it makes sense to make people pay more for functionality that they never asked for.

For example. If I want to play Sims 4 on my Playstation 5 with mouse and keyboard... Why can't I do that?

I think... Currently... I actually can't do that. At any price. It isn't something that I can do. Even though I might purchase the game on a PC and / or a Mac and additionally on an X-Box and / or Playstation Console I cannot play the game on my next gen console with mouse and keyboard. There is no way for me to do that.

I do understand they want to incentivise and motivate people to building or buying PC gaming machines. But I think that withholding mouse and keyboard functionality from console gamers is a disengenuous (underhanded) way of going about next gen computer sales.

Boo.

You suck.

:-(

second life and the multiverse

In reply to Re: say what???, posted by alexandra_k on January 1, 2023, at 23:53:45

so the problem or trouble with 'second life' is that the learning curve was too steep. apparently.

i remember first logging into second life. the learning curve was, in fact, steep. It took quite few hours for me to figure out basic navigation in game. moving. flying. skipping into or out of regions. all of the navigation was hard. genuinely difficult.

i do in fact appreciate how they have managed to transform modern gui's (graphical user interfaces) so that the 'common man' can navigate second life types of environments without appreciable tutorial system. they just sort of... kludge it together. figure it out...

so... i do appreciate the value of controller systems (compared to mouse an keyboard). sort of. i meant to say... obviously people want to hold a fairly weightless ball. actually. rather than a controller. they want to splay their fingers in a resting posture. not have them all curled up. but getting the weightlessness to control with the little finger (rather than using it to hold the weight up) is for future generations...

anyway...

i do understand that work is going into modern gui interface design. but i also think that it is a terminal or fitness trap of a controller system. don't get me wrong the keyboard system is far from perfect... but forcing people to re-purchase for controller systems that do little more than move the x key around to surprising places is fairly obviously and clearly nothing other than a fitness trap. indeed.

that's the aim or the point or the purpose or goal. right? taser to the brain of the masses...
