high dose fish oil?

Posted by Christ_empowered on May 5, 2014, at 19:45:45

I take the vitacost stuff. I do Orthomolecular, so the idea is to high dose just about everything. So, I take 12grams (12 caps) fish oil from the good people at vitacost.

I feel...stable? I mean, its only been a little while, and I'm definitely still on meds, but I'm not freaking out near as much. Then again; I take a lot of supplements.

Are there problems with high doses? I'm on Atkins, so the fat content, even the added calories, really aren't a problem.

Any issues with long term, high dose fish oil use? I should note that my skin is better (eczema and rosacea).

I already take a high dose (1,000 IU) of natural form, mixed tocopherol E (also from the friendly folks at vitacost), so vitamin E depletion really isn't an issue.

great question CE! I'm not sure about what the adverse effects of that high a dose. Do you still feel like it's helping? I wish there were more studies on this stuff to find out what the best dose is for mood/anxiety. I've been taking Lovaza, which is 4000mg of EPA/DHA. What is the total omega3 content of what you're taking? Some of the cheaper brands will say "fish oil 1000mg" but then if you look at the label only 300mg of that will be omega3. Please keep us updated on your fish oil trial. herpills

thanks for the reply!

Its vitacost brand fish oil, with a strawberry flavor. I really appreciate that flavoring, trust me.

Each capsule has a little over 1 gram of fish oil. The recommended dose is 2 caps. Per 2ish gram dose, I get 800mgs EPA and 400mgs DHA, which I think is decent (?). My intake is 6x that, so 4.8 grams EPA and 2.4 grams DHA.

I hope your Rx fish oil helps you out. Is it available in generic yet?
