most absorbable oral Mg, counter diarrhea

Posted by iforgotmypassword on April 8, 2008, at 16:37:42

wondering what i should take. was considering high dose magnesium. higher than before hopefully, but not so i get diarrhea. acidophilus, would that be adequate help?

what is the best oral magnesium to take?

there is Mag Tab SR which is sustained release. i imagine sustained release helps, does it? it is magnesium lactate i think...

i would consider taking magnesium 4 times a day if i can force my brain into a system. i must admit i have never been successful with my brain before.

I don't know anything about acidophilus and magnesium/diarrhea, but I just wanted to let you know what magnesium I take. I take http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?c=1&pid=15 Doctor's Best High Absorption Magnesium. I showed it to my (holistic) doctor and sha said it was a good type to take.
Good luck
Liz

I take NOW foods Magnesium Citrate powder. About 400 - 800mg per day. I haven't had diarrhea using this. I have had with other forms of Magnesium. It has a slightly bitter taste, but it's quite palatable in water.

Magnesium glycinate I believe is the most absorbable, with citrate being next best. Though not as common, I have heard great things about magnesium malate. Diarrhea from these is a sign of one of two things: 1)Dose was ramped up too fast, 2)You have reached your body's level of need for magnesium and any excess is going to be flushed.

Another way to get magnesium in is to take Epsom salt baths. One to two cups in a hot bath for 10 to 20 minutes. Start with low amounts and shorter times and work up. The magnesium is readily absorbed through the skin. Transdermal magnesium supplementation. No diarrhea that way.
