BipolarII help?

Posted by fayeroe on October 4, 2006, at 21:59:22

I can't get in to see a Pdoc, just moved to Texas, til December 3.....the first appointment was April 3 and I told them that I wouldnt' make it til then.

Any suggestions about something to help the horrible drain swirling depression that I'm experiencing now?

I am completely shut down and unable to make it through an entire day without my zombie act on the sofa. Two more months of this will be a living hell. If I can make it 60 days.

Hi Pat,
Good to see you here. I'm sorry you're struggling so much right now. Moving can create so many other challenges besides the logistics.

Was there anythihg that worked before, and can you get a refill from your old doc until you can see the new one?

I don't know enough about alt stuff to help, although I know that others here will.

take care

I recently saw a program on UK TV by Stephen Fry (he has manic depression) he interviewed many people who suffer with this condition. He interviewed a doctor who had been institutionalised because of this condition. She has been symptom free for 14 years, she recommends eating fish and taking fish oils, and also eating a healthy diet with lots of vegetables, fruit and seeds such as flax seed and hemp seed.

I know this isn't a wonder cure there's no such thing unfortunately. However it should be worth taking fish oils and improving diet etc.

If you could be more specific about your symptoms, people may be better able to make suggestions.

The problem with bipolar, from what I've seen on this board, is that what people may use effectively for depression could have an opposite effect for bipolar. This page looks to be a pretty good summary of current thinking: http://www.moodswing.org/treatments.htm It makes some important points specific to bipolar, such as avoiding St. John's Wort and being careful with folic acid (which may preclude the use of a B complex).

Nothing has helped my depression as much as magnesium, which I tried based on this guy's website, who was himself bipolar. http://www.coldcure.com/html/dep.html

thank you, everyone for the feedback.

i have bipolarII which means that my lows are the problem. i rarely ever have a manic episode. my depression is really bad.

i'm going to try the fish oil and flax seed. in fact i can go into Austin next week and pick some up.

gg, actually moving helped me. i really, really like this town and enjoy the climate more. plus Bill is only 3 hours away now...:-)

to top all of this off, i've never had allergies and there are tons of stuff here that have hit me right between the eyes. everything is blooming and blowing around and my head feels like it is the size of a big watermelon.

i've read about the gentleman who did the bipolar study. i think it's great that people are finally discussing mental health issues and perhaps more dicusssion will get more research.......who knows? xoxo pat
