I've stopped smoking few months and from time to time I use Nicotine chewing gum (2mg or 4mg) as a stimulant. My question : is nicotine ALONE (without all the nasty stuff in cigs) beneficial for concentration/brain, well-being etc etc ?
Ive always heard that nicotine alone is good. Any studies ?Take care.

I would say after reading this that nicotine is not beneficial to health.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicotine
"nicotine plays a role in carcinogenesis and may be considered to be a carcinogen on those grounds."
The therapeutic uses are limited to nicotine dependence i.e. smoking and autosomal dominant frontal lobe epilepsy.
There may be more therapeutic uses for nicotine but for persons who aren't aware of any significant health problems that nicotine might treat then it's probably safe to say they don't need to take it.

I have tried nicotine gum to see if it improved my concentration. It clearly worsened my concentration and made me feel mildy unwell.
