What Form/Brand of Magnesium is Best?

Posted by Tom Twilight on November 19, 2005, at 1:50:31

Hey everyone

I think I need more Magnesium

I have tried several chelated Magnesium supplements with mixed results.

They're often somewhat calming, but also give me insomnia.
They also often contain Phosphorous, which makes my anxiety worse!
I think part of the problem is that I don't know what amino acid the Magnesium is chelated with.

There are so many different forms of Magnesium that I'm confused as to which one to go for! Some people say Magnesium Glycinate is best, others think Magnesium Chloride or Orotate is better.

So my Babble friends which form is best and most calming?

Magnesium Taurate is supposedly best then Magnesium Glycinate.

Magnesium Taurate is bound with Taurine, so probably the best form to take if you feel anxious and would also be good if you get heart palpitations, as both Magnesium and Taurine are calming and used to help stop heart palpitations.

Here is a quote I've taken from this website >

http://www.healthy.net/asp/templates/article.asp?PageType=Article&ID=541

" have found that magnesium taurate, an unusual form of magnesium in which magnesium is chemically combined with the amino acid derivative taurine, is particularly well utilized and beneficial. This is because some of the same effects that one hopes to get from magnesium, such as the calming effect on the nervous system, and the strengthening effect on heart muscle, is also gotten with taurine. So, the two are synergistic together. I use it in all forms of cardiac and nervous system disorders"
