i mean like absent from work kinda ill? he does go away for long stretches, but for things to get this out of hand with no peeking in on it seems odd even for him.
i wonder if he is at work? does anyone know if he is? there must be a chic univ student here somewhere...?

He will sweep in and do his bans and then be gone again. Maybe he is just enjoying life outside this board?

>Maybe Dr. Bob wanted to see how Psycho-Babble operates without an official moderator. The community now has a good idea as to what Dr. Bob would qualify as being civil versus uncivil behavior and speech.
Let us win the challenge of maintaining a functional website despite the absence of moderation by Dr. Bob. Until Dr. Bob shows up, it might be a wonderful opportunity for the rest of the community to act altruistically and with compassion. This would include respect among posters who are diametrically opposed in their belief system or mode of communication.
Be well all.

Exactly what I was thinking with all the talk before of long blocks and amnesty to blocked posters. Maybe Bob really wants to see what happens if that were to happen in a way. Phillipa

I think that's exactly what's happening.
The more responses the negative posters get, the more power they hold. No responses strips them of that power. Just my two cents worth..

I think you're on-point, justherself (and Scott).Maybe the community can isolate uncivil posters by not reading or responding to them. That, in effect, 'blocks' them without any single 'authority' (as in Dr. Bob) pushing a button that prevents them from posting - thereby leaving them to sort of 'die on the vine.' Uncivil posters can wear themselves out posting all the hatred they want, but if no one reads it, then no one gets upset and reacts - but their voice has been silenced because we have closed our ears to it.
They could come back with a new identity and be welcomed as all new posters are welcomed - and be heard for as long as they are able to sustain reasonable civility.

It might be part of the grand design. Teach civility and go away.Interesting experiment.

Now that you mention this I'm kind of getting worried about Dr. Bob. He rides his bike in the winter. I hope he didn't get into an accident.
I feel tempted to call the number on his Facebook to see if he is OK, but I don't know if that is appropriate. Maybe he is just busy.

He's fine I think. I got an email response from him yesterday and he said thanks for letting him know some specifics of what is now happening on the boards and he would get to it - or "try" to - soon.
I think he also tweeted something in the last day or two. Check Twitter.
I wouldn't worry. Once when I was a deputy, his absence was going on one month and he was fine.
