I'm taking the following meds:
100mg Seroquel
50mg Nortriptyline
0.75- 1 mg Clonazepam
1500mg L-tryptophanI've been having bad insomnia but it is getting much better, but my thinking is very slowed and fuzzy. Normally I would take around 125mg of Nortriptyline to alleviate the depression along with other meds.
Doc has been lowering the Notriptyline because he thought it might be activating.
With the combo I described I seem to be doing better with sleep but I am not thinking clearly. What is the likely culprit?
I have had many incidents of major depression. At first the diagnosis was just recurrent depression now they are thinking bipolar 2 and suspect I may be in the hypomanic and depressed phase at the same time.
But if that is the case seems there should be an antidepressant in the mix and the 50mg of Nortriptyline isn't going to do anything.
I'm just looking for some ideas to bounce off my doctor.
One PA I was seeing thought the fuzziness was more likely due to the clonazepam.

goodness..that is alot of sedative type medications. Get on a stimulant, like adderall to help with this. Celexa and Prozac are a good choice for serotonin increase with out "brain fog" like Paxil...
keep updated

Your're covered for mood stabalizer, sleep med, Maybe higher dose of an ad. Fuzzy thinking to me would be seroquel but I'm also not bipolar. Phillipa

> keep updatedThanks but it doesn't work like that for me - my body is still very much in hyper drive. I explained in another post had started treating initially with 5mg of Lexapro and Buspar and sent my anxiety through the roof.
Unfortunately SSRIs don't work for me.
I need something very sedating, the clonazepam helps with sleep, but I believe that and the seroquel are creating memory problems for me or it could just be the cummulative effect of not getting enough sleep past few weeks

I agree I think an AD is missing but anything that's the slightest bit activating would kill me at this point. I would like to add SAM-e but I would be a bit nervous with that and the seroquel. Also sam-e can be activating. It doesn't seem like they are doing enough for me in the hospital.

Try a low dose of the regular generic luvox. Not stimulating. Phillipa

I take zyprexa, a sedating med, and it makes my focus better. I've never taken the two you are on. But if the fuzzy thinking started when you decreased the nortriptlyn, that might be the problem. You could always increase the nortrip and the seroquel. I also take perphenazine which helps focus, anouther sedating med.

Every single one of those meds/supplements is likely to induce brainfog. My guess would be the most likely culprits are nortriptyline at any dose, and clonazepam at any dose. Tryptophan makes a lot of people feel fuzzy, and no question Seroquel can knock out an elephant.

Thanks for all the feedback, sleep is important so I'll just deal with it for now.
