klonopin question

Posted by sam K on June 20, 2009, at 16:20:23

Klonopin to me seems like a trap.... I take it at first and it makes me calm. I take it second it makes me more anxious. I dont understand this med at all.
I mean if i didnt understand this, Id be popping them left and right.
Its like you take it and youre more anxious, so automatically you think take more because you are anxious. But really the klonopin was making you anxious in the first place. It seems like a dose raising trap.
A long time ago i went all the way up to 1mg or something a few times a day. The doctor kept raising it and raising it.
At first it gives you a high that turns you into the person of your dreams. Which is euphoria. That is why its abused. but you get no where with that.
I mean i feel anxious right now. It makes no sense.

22 years at 0.5mg 2 or 3 times a day.... never abused, no euphoria.

Maybe it's not the right drug for you???

Ok a little technical here, and not cause i am but only cause ive read on gaba extensivly.

Ok here goes, glutamte is the precursor to gaba, glutamate is the KILLER of anxiet....when gaba is incresed it is sorta like a ladder,it passes glutamte to gaba be it gaba a/gaba b/benzo receptor or other gaba site.

As gaba fades it dwindles back down to glutamte fast, which sometimes explains the hard hit of anxiety rebound. Also explains the old proverb "dog that bit u in the *rs*" because at that point u raise gaba back up.

This is said why benzos beer and other gaba agents for people with anxiety sometimes causes worse anxiety at first since its passing glutamte.

This is one understanding, however if a med is selective like benzos i dont know if this theory comes into play.

You might wanna read into taurine, its over the counter, the second most inhibtaory nuero right after gaba, and aside from resulting in raising gaba levels it also stablizes eletrical acitvity with the brain and body, some like it,some dont, but its legal and cheap, just a thought to aid ur benzo, and thats what i would do,augment you benzo with a mood stablizer since they all except a minor few act on gaba and have a synergy with benzos.

Sam, maybe this just isn't the med for you. I don't know, but I never feel anxious on it. Librium, on the other hand, made me edgy. I don't feel a *rebound* affect with the klonopin because I take three doses per day at fairly scheduled times. Also no euphoria, or even a whiff of a *high*.

Sam agree with floatingbridge after 40 years of all the benzos none ever did this to me. Different doses different times. No euphoria even on xanax which some says does create it never did for me. Made me feel "normal". Been as low as .125 every other day. Phillipa

Klonopin never made me feel high, although diazepam has (but not commonly). Klonopin takes effect quite slowly compared with other benzodiazepines (up to 45 minutes to an hour for it to take effect in most people). This is one of the reasons why it is considered to have far lower abuse liability. Rapid onset of action is more associated with abuse. (e.g. diazepam)

Klonopin really packed a punch though when it finally did take effect. I felt pretty tired and very, very sleepy the first time I tried it. One dose seemed to last for 12 hours.

Xanax is pretty good, although Xanax XR seems like it should be superior since you wouldn't have to dose it many times a day and the blood level wouldn't reach a peak, which would also reduce its abuse liability.
