i was wondering if this has anything to do with its ridiculously long half-life.
some people find it very helpful initially, but then the levels mount, and it becomes akathitic?
ironically however, some people seem to be soothed by higher doses?
odd.
for my case, people's accounts of it make it very attractive, and it is very interesting as a drug.apparently, 5-ht2a antagonism and 5-ht2c agonism boost activity in the orbitofrontal cortex, which is essential in decision making?
my permanent akathisia started with SSRIs, and i seem to have a pseudoparkinsonian disorder. it is quite paradoxical and difficult to describe. this makes me worry, but it seems there are no rules when it comes to these issues, other than i may need to be worried about 5-ht2c agonism, as that may be how SSRIs specifically initiated my extrapyramidal problems.
the pharmacy would not give me my nortriptyline rx on friday because of my taking selegiline. this was quite frustrating. both nortriptyline and aripiprazole appear to be very strange. aripiprazole's long half life makes dosing and going off of it complicated, while having a cloud of mystery surrounding it with regards to mutagenicity (like nortriptyline, even though it doesn't seem to have the triple underline under it like desipramine.)

I found Abilify to be promising also. It produced a nice antidepressant effect and promoted wakefullness as well, especially initially. However, like you mentioned, the long half-life seemed to cause problems in the end possibly due to a build-up of levels.
These are the problems I ran into that eventually proved to be show stoppers:
1. Insomnia - I began waking up more and more. After the first initial dose or two there was a calm anxiolytic effect, which then went away. Subsequent doses exacerbated the insomnia.
2. Anger - I would get noticeably angrier and more depressed immediately after a dose, and then it would attenuate later on. As levels built up this became more pronounced.
3. Joint pain - this one was troubling - I began to develop pains and discomfort in my hands, feet, wrists, knees, etc. I liked the fact that the medecine promoted wakefullness and provided motivation, but I didn't know how to deal with the joint problems.
This is the end of the thread.
