I found Abilify to be promising also. It produced a nice antidepressant effect and promoted wakefullness as well, especially initially. However, like you mentioned, the long half-life seemed to cause problems in the end possibly due to a build-up of levels.
These are the problems I ran into that eventually proved to be show stoppers:
1. Insomnia - I began waking up more and more. After the first initial dose or two there was a calm anxiolytic effect, which then went away. Subsequent doses exacerbated the insomnia.
2. Anger - I would get noticeably angrier and more depressed immediately after a dose, and then it would attenuate later on. As levels built up this became more pronounced.
3. Joint pain - this one was troubling - I began to develop pains and discomfort in my hands, feet, wrists, knees, etc. I liked the fact that the medecine promoted wakefullness and provided motivation, but I didn't know how to deal with the joint problems.
