I've been on a high dose of zyprexa, 30mgs. the med works, but has caused severe weight gain and pre-hypertenson.
Given that I'm a high dose tolerator and fast metabolism, I'm assuming that i will be on a high dose as well
can you crossover from 30mgs zyprex, simply over to say 300mgs seroquel, or start at a lower dose?
Regards,,
Brian

Some doctors might do this but its an iffy proposition, there is no real equivalency like the studies that have been done with benzodiazepines -- and since it isn't being taken for schizophrenia but an affective disorder, who knows what the actual final dose would be for Seroquel. Regardless it isn't an easy transition for any antipsychotic, rebound effects can occur, it depends on the situation.

30mg.....wow. I didnt know they had it that high of a dose.
I take 7.5mg right now for mood stabiliztion, and to calm this brain down. But isnt Zyprexa stonger than Seroquel? on d1 and d2 receptors? anybody read this?
How long does Seroquel last in the system?

Seroquel has a half life of 6 hours, Zyprexa I think not much longer -- its the plasma life though that really determines things. After about two weeks or so, sometimes less, you reach a steady state in your blood. That's why its important to not drop it like a turnip.
Now apparently it is possible from what I know to go from some dose of Seroquel to Clozaril inch by inch, so I'd say again, have a doctor skilled try to make the best guestimate and realize that there may be a bumpy road but that perhaps being "unprotected" completely may not be the best thing for some people.

>Yup, started at 5mgs and i slept for a day straight. Now I can pop the 10mgs like candy. If Im going for a long drive, i need 30mgs or my racing thoughts will just take over, making the drive unbearable, no matter how many benzos i take either

Add in metformin, I think diabetic level dosages might be a good idea. I personally think Phentermine, phendimetrazine, and other diet pills could be very helpful, especially since its not schizophrenia that you're treating here.
In the meantime, maybe Abilify? You could switch straight over to 30mgs/day, add in a tranquilizing agent (atarax, benzos, buspar, a combo of these, maybe a mood stabilizer to reduce/prevent kindling) and see how that goes. If you get agitation, you need to up the tranq, especially if its a benzo.Good luck.

My gosh im sorry. You know i have trouble alot times getting to bed. But with Zyprexa increased for now to 7.5mg put my thoughts down. I just hope my head doesnt "tolerates" it aka. Tolerance.
Xanax only takes care of anxiety. Not thoughts.
How has quality of life been on it?

zyprexa half life is more like 1-2 days. Kickes in at 6h.
