What would be the best medication to treat drug addicts with mptp induced parkinsonism?

I think that it depends on the amount and time you have been exposed to MPTP...but generally L-dopa is used..MAOIs can help.

MPTP is a contaminant that can result from sloppy synthesis of MPPP, a street analog of the opioid meperidine (Demerol). MPTP is a known industrial toxin which affects the dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra, once it has metabolized to MPP+ (1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium). Because of these effects, cases of Parkinson's Disease caused by MPTP have been reported (Baum RM: New variety of street drugs poses growing problem. Chem Eng 1985; 9:7-16).

MPTP is a model for PD, so it would follow that the treamtment for one should work for another.
Docs that treat PD can help you.Lots of meds for PD are in the pipeline.

It should be noted that in the 80's the press
confused MDMA with MPTP. Still today we are stuck
with the propaganda that MDMA causes PD, damages dopamine systems, ect.

I was buying bad drugs from a few people before and I just found out it was actually mptp. I don't have all the symptoms of PD but I do have rigid/stiff muscles, tremors and dementia symptoms. I am on effexor and remeron for severe depression , the remeron seems to helping the most. Is there brain scans to test for PD?

Not sure, but it would be a waste of money to
test for PD if you took MPTP. You would be proving
what is already known. If you take MPTP, you get PD. There is not a grey area here. Sorry.

Does your doc know about the MPTP ?
