MPTP is a contaminant that can result from sloppy synthesis of MPPP, a street analog of the opioid meperidine (Demerol). MPTP is a known industrial toxin which affects the dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra, once it has metabolized to MPP+ (1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium). Because of these effects, cases of Parkinson's Disease caused by MPTP have been reported (Baum RM: New variety of street drugs poses growing problem. Chem Eng 1985; 9:7-16).
<end quote>MPTP is a model for PD, so it would follow that the treamtment for one should work for another.
Docs that treat PD can help you.Lots of meds for PD are in the pipeline. It should be noted that in the 80's the press
confused MDMA with MPTP. Still today we are stuck
with the propaganda that MDMA causes PD, damages dopamine systems, ect.
