I've been diagnosed as schizoid. I have been on Risperdal and Zyprexa in the past. My latest med was Geodon. I had been on it for about 1 year. 80 mg a day. And also 60mg of Lexapro daily.
I decided to stop because, 1 - my pdoc visits are expensive, and 2 - I don't like the way Geodon makes me feel. I don't have the motivation I used to have and it makes me very sleepy during the day. I decided that I can deal with the intense daydreaming that I do sometimes.
However... stopping Geodon is giving me a reaction different from stopping the other meds. I feel wierd. Feels like my brain is floating inside my head bouncing from side to side. My eyes feel heavy in their sockets.
Will this go away? I have been taking 1 20 mg pill once a day now for two days to taper off. Any thoughts on why I feel like this and when will it stop?
Thanks,
Jim

> JimMaybe this is 'too little, too soon'? You have gone from 80mg/day to 20mg/day? Maybe you need to taper it more gradually: 80mg>60mg>40mg<etc
I've only been taking geodon for one month, so I have little experience with it, but I went on the drug gradually so maybe the key to going off of it is
gradualness also. Good luck. Btw, I'm experiencing tiredness and lack of motivation as well-- switched from risperdal to geodon over the past month and am
now switching from lexapro to effexor xr, so who knows what it's from?

I've been on Geodon for 6 months and took myself off gradually, 20mg at at time every few days. I did it that way because pdoc says it is out of your system within two days and I didn't allow myself to go higher than 60mg. 60mg left me very tired all the time. I've noticed that going off it even gradually left me with a floating heaviness in my head as well. I also have tremors now, I did not before. Pdoc blames it on my being hypothyroid. However Geodon seems to contribute to that as I have become worse these past few months, which is why I'm taking myself off.
Here http://www.infagra.com/g/geodon.html I found this: "Drugs such as Geodon sometimes cause a condition called Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome. Symptoms include high fever, muscle rigidity, irregular pulse or blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, excessive perspiration, and changes in heart rhythm. If these symptoms appear, tell your doctor immediately. You'll need to stop taking Geodon while the condition is under treatment."
I am definitely suffering muscle rigidity along my neck and upper torso, rapid heartbeat and intermittent excessive perspiration. After much research, it seems I may not be bipolar type I after all, but suffering from medication agitating thyroid and adrenal fatigue since I was also diagnosed with PTSD. So temporarily, I have changed my diet accordingly. I removed all dairy products and others that agitate hypothyroid or adrenal fatigue, drink distilled water now, am taking 1 tablespoon of unrefined coconut oil per day along with a B Complex. I am almost symptom free after 5 days and today is my first day completely off Geodon. I feel much better than I have in the last three years.
Monday I see an endocrinologist who specializes in alternative medicine. Recovery may not be just a dream after all.
This is the end of the thread.
