I have noticed since day 2 of taking Lexapro that my appetite is significantly decreased. At first, I thought it was because of the severe nausea. Now, I am not nauseous and I still have no appetite. Sometimes I forget to eat all day and don't realize it. I need to lose weight anyway, but I know skipping meals is not good. With all the other SSRI's (ESP. PAXIL!), I experienced INCREASED appetite (which lead to weight gain).
Has anyone else experienced decreased appetite with Lexapro? I'm not exactly complaining about this s/e, but sometimes it's scary for me to go all day without eating and not realize it.

Although I am not on Lexapro, I have had a decreased appetite with Effexor. I have read that some people get increased appetite on other SSRIs but I guess it can just vary from person to person.

I think that your appetite will probably go back towards normal after a week or so.

I hope so Bill! It's been a week and 4 days right now and I still have no appetite. I'm starting to think maybe it's a good thing though....I've lost 6 lbs! In any case, the Lexapro is making me feel much better...I can deal with one small s/e, considering what I have gone through with other SSRI's.

I've had the same experience with all the SSRI's, especially paxil and celexa (and most likely lexapro in your case) It usually only lasts less than a week, and you're appetite returns to normal or even to an increased appetitive state. This is good if you have more melancholic features, however, a little vexing if you suffer from more atypical features. Either way, look for the effect to subside very quickly.

Celexa+ a little dexedrine caused a mild anorexia. Zoloft/Paxil increased appetite, Prozac/Luvox didn't notice much difference.

Thanks for everyone's input! I am still not hungry at all, but I am getting used to it. I have certain times that I make myself eat something, no matter how small it is, just to keep my energy up. Everything's going ok so far. I'm going to see my MD (who is now my pdoc as well) in about 2 weeks. I will tell him then what is going on and see what he says.
