Go to the doc.

Depakote affects liver function. As you know, proper liver function is needed to make white blood cells. Therefore, if the depakote is adversely affecting your liver and you don't know it because you haven't had a blood test, then the low white blood cell count may allow an infection to start. The result: sore throat. Solution: switch mood stabilizers AND get some antibiotics. Of course, if the sore throat is allergies or a cold, then it probably has little to do with the depakote. But you never know. Leave it to the professionals.

desided rather than turn up at cas. or ring doc I would try the nhs phone line....
1st call
1.spent 5 mins trying and failing to convince nurse that I was not epileptic and the sodium valproate was for mood stabilising.
in the end said F. it, it doesent matter anyway I want to know about side effects.
2. said about agranulocytosis, this sounds like this thing. said will come to that later, after I answer 30 odd questions, about my throat, yawn.
3. got to end of questions, asked about the agranulo... and he said he had only heard of it and had no idea.
4. started giving me tips on managing my throat. at this point I felt like screaming in his ear 'I dont give a fuck about my throat, you robotic son of a bitch! I only want to know If I am gonna die or not- simple' i didnt sadly. however cut him off in the middle of his gargling asprin speach to tell him that it is contraindicated whilst taking epilim (brit depakote). haha! but as I was about to hang up he makes me wait whilst he checks, comes back on saying no, its not. then I say that the info sheet says about salycites (?) eg . asprin and that shuts him up.
4. 30 mins wasted.

case 2 later in the evening. still defacating bricks
nurse rings me due to Q.
1. discusses med. dosage and duration.
2. discusses problem.
3. asks about epilepsy
4. knows about the mood stabiliser thing.
5. discusses the white blood cell problem
6. tells me to ring my gp and get an out of hours apointment tonight, and answers all other qns well.
7. call gp, gat told to stop meds and thats it, that everything is ok, after qns.
time 15 mins.

oh yeah, I am not going to stop the meds, I figure I will die or not. It seems the most likely to work. and I have no other med options at the moment. Plus havent desided wether this is a no-fault opportunity or not.
