Depends on the dose and the length of time and which SSRI. If its an SSRI with a long half life and certain plasma characteristics there's less chance of withdrawal. Paxil is not an example of this, losing a day of it can be uncomfortable for some people. Regardless there will be some transient anxiety period or melancholic depending on what one is using it for.

Benzodiazepines long term and higher dose are quite hard to get off of, as I can attest.

Although supposedly done in a doctors office and a hospital if necessary it can be done in shorter shrift, its not terribly humane. Some say heroin is easier to get off of -- but there's a degree of psychological issues with needles and yucky things I won't go into, so I can't qualify that.
