Hmm. I would say that it might be worthwhile finding out *what* the possible benefits are BEFORE telling them. But then I am particularly careful about people knowing I have difficulty with mental illness.
I am on the books as *disabled* from a couple of years back when I was temporarily in a wheelchair. I tick the 'no disability' box now on my application to enroll, but still get emails etc from the disability office.
- I get invitations to social events (which I don't go to - but I guess it may be a way of meeting people if you think that could be of use to you).
- When I had trouble finding accomodation the people from there were VERY VERY helpful with respect to helping me find somewhere.Aside from that, I don't see any benefits...
Drawbacks include the hostel manager being informed enough to ask me whether I was having adequate treatment for my mental health issues. I was not happy with that information being passed on to her. I told her so and she never asked again. But that may be useful for some people I suppose.I don't know.
Anyone else have any experience with this???
