> Is this a mental health forum where we can post for support with mental health issues? Or is it not? I'm confused about this. I suppose I'd get a better response if I called a help line or something. I dunno. Just thought it was something i'd try here, but usually, I'm realizing, I get the same types of responses. Like people aren't sure what to say. Or, they don't really care. And i feel like a bother. Psychcentral might be a better place to post if one is looking for support. Just thinking out loud.
>I think it's hard to know what to say to someone in the grip of deep depression, even for those of us who have been there. Hold on? Try meds? Try therapy? The desire to give advice is powerful. But sometimes we don't want advice, just support. So all I can say is, I understand what this feels like. I have been there too often. I hope you can hang in.
It's funny. I am very active in AA and, when I have gotten severely depressed, my AA friends try to be helpful and offer advice and offer to go for walks with me or meet for coffee. But eventually, they all end up saying, when I'm that down, can you call your psychiatrist? Do you need to be in the hospital? It overwhelms them, and these are people who try above all to be supportive.
