> "Get over it" is the worst thing I can say to myself. I said it to myself for years and just pushed myself harder and harder until I got addicted to drugs and started falling apart. If you can't feel compassion for yourself, you can't function and can't feel compassion for others, so you will be cut off and isolated. Get over it, snap out of it -- these are the hateful, hurtful, un-empathic things we say to ourselves and others that feed shame and despair. When I first heard the song, I was surprised and disappointed. I thought it was callous and dismissive. It seemed to be out of character for Henley to write something like that. Aside from the lyrics, it makes for good rock-n-roll. I can listen to it without "pitching a fit".
