Well, I agree that you don't have those things yet, and that can be something to be sad about. Keeping in mind that you're still quite young and can get as many of those things as you wish.
But I don't really think you can judge whether you're worse off than others. You don't know what it's like to be them. You can't see it from that point of view. Nor is it true that all of those who don't finish high school, for example, are in the same position and face the same prospects. I couldn't say that I'm worse off than someone who lives in a million dollar house and who has never been depressed, because who is to say what challenges that person faces?
I know that part of depression is to twist thoughts. But maybe you could think of yourself as not so badly placed for moving in whatever direction you wish to move in life? Not to say that you have it easy, or that your life is perfect.
I wouldn't be too quick to decide that exercise is your only answer. You did well enough for long periods of time when you weren't exercising hours a day six days a week. Maybe you could think about what right now has in common with those other times? And of course, sometimes feelings just are. They pass, they return, and they just have to be accepted for a while. If they linger on, it's time to talk to your pdoc.
I'm sorry you're feeling so bad, Deneb. I hope you feel better soon.
