In reply to thank you so much, I did feel bad but you all have, posted by Jai Narayan on September 11, 2006, at 20:03:22
That's okay. We all go through self doubt sometimes. I try to remind everyone that in this environment you can't make any assumptions. If no one responds to something you've said, it doesn't necessarily mean a thing.
Once, when I was going through a particularly hard time, only a few people responded to me. I figured I probably came off sounding really self centered and annoying. But then later I had several people tell me they had been following my story but they just never posted! There's just a whole different psychology in chat rooms and we all have to keep that in mind.
I sometimes half-jokingly call myself 'Queen of the Thread Killers' because I seem to be the last post on a thread more than anyone else. But what people write, or don't write, doesn't always reflect what they're actually thinking. There's lots of posts I've read that either I just can't figure out how to respond in a helpful way, or somebody else had already said what I was thinking. So I just don't say anything. But yet I am feeling for the person and will check back later to see how they're fairing.
Or sometimes, I'm just too depressed myself to give someone support. We have to take turns with it here. If you see a lone post that's been out there a while, and really don't have anything to say back, it never hurts to let that person know you don't have the answers, but you are there and commiserate. And if your post is at the end of a thread, just know that sometimes people figure its all been said and time to move on to a new thread. It doesn't mean everybody stopped posting because of your post.
Anyway, I feel like I'm rambling so I guess I'll stop now. Hopefully I've made some sort of sense.
