Random Act of Kindness

Posted by Berberis on January 26, 2006, at 13:27:24

I was sitting in a local restaurant today after having finished eating my lunch. I was feeling depressed and was staring at nothing – just sitting and staring. A man walked up to me, put his hand on my lunch tray, and asked “are you done with this?”. I thought what’s going on here? He's obviously not an employee of the restaurant and besides employees don’t bus the tables – it’s a buffet joint. I said to him, “yes I’m done but I can take care of that myself”. He deposited my trash in the garbage and stacked the tray with the others left by previous diners. I thanked him for his kindness and left. I just didn’t know what to make of this. It wasn’t like he wanted my table because the place was empty. Also I think he came in with another guy and they were sitting at another table. For some reason, it really affected me and I cried walking back to the office. A simple kindness by a perfect stranger.
