That is so very sad. :(
I felt the same way you did about the original series. I'm not a huge sci fi fan, but that series was more about people than science fiction. I'm happy to call myself a Trekker. (Just the original series though.)
I met him once at a convention as well. I don't recall much about it, but I still have the autograph somewhere. And I remember thinking what a great sense of humor he had during the presentation.
Gosh I miss those. Do they still have them? I had soooo much fun in the memorabilia sales hall.
