Well, if you have a decent relationship with her and it's doable, I think the No. 1 thing mothers like to get is their kids' time! My mom used to love it when I'd come pick her up and take her to a botanical garden or something like that. Mature women have so many things that there shelves and closets are often bursting, so I used to hold off buying her things that she had to find a place for. The exception to this might be books (my book bias showing) or if she collects things, then an addition for her collection might be nice. I did often get flowers, or take her out for a meal, something like that. I really miss her.

As for my kids, my grown-up son (he's 26 and headed for Iraq this summer and I'm trying not to get sick about it) usually sends me a card. My young son (11) usually makes something at school, but he starts middle school next year, so that will probably stop after this year.
