How does one break into the social circle here?

Hi-
I have made a few posts and haven't found a very warm reception... I have also tried replying to other people, because I do believe in supporting others as much as I need support.
I think I messed up right from the start when I posted (under a different name, I had password problems) about a topic that turned pretty controversial I guess. :( Apparently I pissed a bunch of people off, without meaning to.
So far it's just feeling like I don't "fit in" here. This feels just IRL. What should I be doing differently? You all seem to be so close.
