I recently took my car in to be serviced because the check engine light came on. When I went to pick it up I was told that there was an inexpensive repair which might work, but that it was more likely that I would need a new transmission. My transmission had an 80K warranty and my car had over 83K miles on it. My dealer told me they had placed a call to the manufacturer to see if they would pick up all or part of the cost. My dealer called me up yesterday to tell me that the manufacturer was sending them a new transmission and was going to cover all costs associated with the installation.
I was pleasantly shocked out of the trough I fell into after finding out that I might have to buy a new transmission for the one car in my family (out of 3) which is not a constant maintenance headache.
Not at all to look a gift horse in the mouth, but it still begs the question why.
This is the first time I've owned a car of this type so it's not like I've been a good long time customer of either the manufacturer or the dealer.
Any ideas?
