usually vulgar often vulgar words here

Posted by TofuEmmy on January 19, 2005, at 19:22:13

I read a post recently in which the person used the word "crap". It went through the Babble filter just fine. I recently used the word "f*rt", and it was smashed with an *. So, I found that odd. I find crap to be a much more substantial word than f*rt. To me, f*rt is a much lighter, airier, malorderous, but less offensive word. So, I checked Merriam-Webster to find:

F*rt: Etymology: Middle English ferten, farten; akin to Old High German ferzan to break wind, Old Norse freta, Greek perdesthai, Sanskrit pardate he breaks wind.
Pronunciation: 'färt
*often vulgar*: to expel intestinal gas from the anus

btw, "f*rt" as a noun can also mean a foolish or contemptible person <couldn't stand the old f*rt>

Crap: Pronunciation: 'krap
*usually vulgar*: defecate

also, as a noun, well, you know what it means.
Etymology: Middle English crappe chaff, residue from rendered fat, perhaps from Old French crappe chaff, residue, from Medieval Latin crappa.

Consider yourself an expert.
