Family and Christmas time

Posted by Slavegirl on December 25, 2004, at 18:50:27

Do you think it's better to be with family or away from them over Christmas? We live in another country for 5 years or so, and although the run up to the crappy day is sentimental and quite emotional (the kids are still young)...I feel quilty sometimes for being happy to be away from the whole lot, specially when I phoned the far away country, and 'felt' the bickering, the tensions, and all that crap. Glad I'm not there to decide whether to spend it with my mum or my dad who abandoned us and now decides he wants to be grandfather of the year and angry with my brother for going there instead of my mom and lying to her (and we don't even live there)....then listening on the phone to my dad telling me how wealthy and well my brother is doing in life (well - great...but money isn't everything) and then listening to my brother later going on about his money and business (sigh!). Not jealous...but really! When kids have golf lessons at school at the age of 8...what can you say? Scary stuff? Glad we don't live there..the materialism is frightening and Christmas just makes it worse. Should I feel guilty about spending it with my little family, over here, no fighting, no bickering, just peace and calm and mess and all the rest? Any thoughts, experiences???? And...I survived the day, depression not too bad, anxiety not THAT BAD..had a few tranqs...but that is all that can be expected. Glad it's all over now. Wish New Year's eve and all that crap would go away!!!

HUGS TO YOU ALL!
