I love garlic mashed potatoes, my dad's cole-slaw, and the stuffing. I know it's all kind of basic...but so yummy. Oh, and don't forget the lovely homemade gravy from the turkey drippings. I love that 'real' gravy much, much better than the prepackaged kinds. It makes the whole dinner come alive for me.
My mom loves that canned cranberry sauce. She wiggles it out onto a bowl, right in its jellylike little oblong cylindrical shape, and cuts it into thick wedges (most of which she herself eats.)
We offered jokingly to look up recipes and make here a fancier, "gourmet-ish" cran. sauce a la Ms. Jailbird Steward or others. But my mom simply said no, she looooves that canned cranberry sauce, and wants no substitute. Maybe like my cravings for Big Macs (no steakhouse burger for me!) or the way kids prefer boxed Mac & Cheese to homemade mac/cheese....
So we always have that too!
